Canada Express Entry is sort of a point-based immigration program, done online through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The applicant makes an online profile, and then is evaluated under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) which ends up giving 1,200 points. The points are earned based on various aspects including age, education, proficiency in language and work experience. The highest-ranking applicants get an invitation to apply (ITA), which is the fastest way to settle down in Canada within 6 months time.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a system that regulates the pool of individuals for Canada’s three main economic immigration programs. As opposed to first come, first served approach, the Express Entry system considers all the profiles equally.

The Main Features of the Express Entry System -

  • Full Online Processing - The process is entirely paperless and fast because of online management of profiles.
  • Short Period of Processing - The majority of applications is processed within six months.
  • Dynamic CRS Cut-off Scores - There are different cut-offs for each biweekly or specific category draw.
  • Profile Validity of One Year - Your Express Entry profile will be valid for 12 months. During this period, you can upgrade your CRS score.
  • Direct Path to PR - Successful applicants and their family members will receive the Canadian Permanent Residency on arrival.

The 3 Express Entry Programs

Depending on your experience, education, and your present location, you will apply for Express Entry through one of the 3 immigration programs of the Government of Canada -

1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

For people who have continuous paid foreign skilled work experience in occupations falling under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 from abroad. You should get a minimum of 67 points out of 100 in the FSW selection criteria grid.

2. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The CEC is designed for temporary foreign workers and international students who have one year of work experience in Canada within last three years.

3. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

It is designed for those who belong to the category of tradespeople such as cooks, electricians, plumbers, and industrial mechanics and have 2 years of continuous work experience and a valid job offer in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

Canada Express Entry 2026: CRS Score, Eligibility & PR Guide โ€” common questions answered

What CRS score is needed for Canada Express Entry in 2026?
There is no specific pass mark for Canada Express Entry. Each draw has its own CRS cutoff score. General and Canadian Experience Class draws may have higher cutoffs, while category-based draws for French-speaking candidates, healthcare professionals and trades occupations may have different and sometimes lower cutoffs. Candidates who receive an Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominee Program nomination receive an additional 600 CRS points.
Is a Canadian job offer required to apply for Canada Express Entry?
No, a Canadian job offer is not required to apply for Express Entry. Many applicants receive Canadian permanent residence through programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program based on their overall eligibility and CRS score.
How long is the Express Entry process from India?
After receiving an Invitation to Apply and submitting a complete application with the required documents, biometrics and medical examination, IRCC aims to process most Express Entry applications within approximately six months. Preparing your profile, completing language tests and obtaining an Educational Credential Assessment may take an additional two to three months or longer, depending on individual circumstances.
How can I increase my CRS score when itโ€™s too low?
If your CRS score is below recent draw cutoffs, you may improve it by retaking approved language tests to achieve higher CLB scores, obtaining an ECA for an additional eligible qualification, improving your work experience, studying French or applying for an Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominee Program. A provincial nomination can add 600 CRS points to your profile.
Do I need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)?
Yes, if you completed your education outside Canada, you generally need an Educational Credential Assessment from an IRCC-designated organization to be eligible under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and to claim CRS points for foreign education. Designated organizations may include WES, IQAS and CES, depending on your credential and eligibility.
Can I add my spouse and/or children in my Express Entry Profile?
Yes, you can include your spouse or common-law partner and eligible dependent children in your Express Entry application. Eligible family members included in the application can receive permanent resident status with the principal applicant after the application is approved.
